The Human Factor

Over the weekend, I heard a famous photographer say "Don't get so caught up in the technical part of photography that you forget about the human factor". I think that is the main thing that I love about photography. Photographs capture a moment in time and allows you to remember so many feelings and emotions. I am drawn to images that show people interacting and not aware of the camera. Here are a few shots that show what I'm talking about. These are not about anything technical or me as the photographer - they are about the people and the emotions that they are feeling. I'm not saying the technical part isn't important. It is very important and I am always learning new things and striving to get better technically. I'm just saying these are the images that I strive for and I feel like I have accomplished something when this type of emotion is captured.

Messy Matt

My son is known as Messy Matt. From the looks of how he likes to spend Sunday afternnon you can see why. From the time he could walk he has loved to play in mud. I guess that is a boy thing. He told me that he "accidently" fell in the mud while riding his bike. He was happy to pose for the camera instead of getting into trouble.

Beautiful Wedding

Yesterday began with sleet, snow, high winds, rain, no electricity, many prayers, and a very calm bride. The wedding was planned for outside at her grandmother's house at 3 PM but this didn't worry Dee. In a few hours she would be married and she was very excited. As it turned out the prayers were answered. Electricity was restored to the house at about 11am and the sun began to shine at about 1pm. Everything turned out beautiful and Dee and Azia were married under beautiful blue skies and the sun shinning bright. Here are a few of the pictures of the day.

Remember Laura & Kyle?

Remember Laura and Kyle from their engagement post? Well I said the wedding would be amazing and it was!! Laura and Kyle decided to see each other before the wedding. We had a special moment where Kyle was at the end of a walkway and Laura walked down and called his name. It was a special time between the two of them. We took a few pictures and then gave them a little time alone. It is a good thing that they had that few minutes because these two have a TON of friends!! They were surrounded all day by friends and family. The day and night was filled with hugs, kisses, laughter, and fun. You could tell this was a reception that people didn't want to end. It was so much fun to be in the middle of it all.

Engagement Session

Engagement sessions are so much fun. I really enjoy getting together with a couple and just having fun. This is a good way for the couple to get to know me and also to get comfortable in front of the camera. It didn't take long for Julie and Michael to get comfortable. After a few shots, they were saying "Hey, let's try this". I LOVE to hear that. That lets me know they are having fun and also they are really into the whole process. Julie and I have talked several times about how important pictures are so I was so excited that she and Michael were able to relax and be themselves. They are an awesome couple!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away......

That is what we were saying on December 15. I don't think I have ever seen rain come down so hard but it didn't stop all of the friends and family of Bethany Miller and Tim Slocum. About 30 minutes before the wedding, I walked upstairs to take a few pictures of people arriving to Ingleside Baptist Church. I was shocked to see the church was packed!! That is one indication of the impact these two have on everyone around them. They both have an amazing ability to make everyone around them feel special, important and loved.

Here are a few shots from the wedding and reception. You can tell the rain didn't stop the fun and didn't put a damper on the love that they share for each other.

Accent Gwinnett

Last year, Delaney got a call from Eryn, who had been a bridesmaid at another wedding that we shot. Eryn was awesome as a bridesmaid and we were excited to hear from her again. She had great news that she was getting married and asked if we could shoot her wedding. Eryn has so much energy and we knew that we would have a ball at her wedding.

Our initial impression proved to be true. The combination of close friends, two wonderful families, a beautiful location, and weather that was the answer to many prayers adds up to the perfect wedding for Eryn and Chris.

We were already honored and blessed to be part of the day with these wonderful people but our second blessing came when Eryn let us know that her wedding had been published in Accent Gwinnett Magazine. Click the title of this post to read about Eryn's day in her own words.

Here are a few images that I shot during the day.
